Travel the World Through Your Taste Buds: Ciao Italy! (Again?)

Travel the World Through Your Taste Buds: Ciao Italy! (Again?)

Where are we going?

Today we are going to your nonna’s kitchen table on Christmas morning. The fireplace roaring in the living room, heavy snowflakes falling outside, and surrounded by family. So why are we at your nonna’s kitchen table? Because we are making traditional italian cookies that my family and I make every year during Christmas.

What are we making?

Today I made fresh ricotta cookies! Every year since I moved back to Ohio, where my mother’s family lives, we have made ricotta cookies for Christmas (along with 14 other kinds of cookies). This recipe has been in my family for generations, my mother got it from her mother and she got it from her mother and so on. This is such an easy cookie to make and only takes about 10 minutes till you can eat it. The trick is to let the outside edges get browned and that’s how we know they are done!.

There are several places online where ricotta cookies are being talked about, for example on cooking.nytimes.com there is a thread including a recipe and the comments people who have made the cookies left. They suggest adding lemon zest but the traditional ones don’t call for that.

The recipe I’m going to link you to below is not my family’s recipe, its a secret I’m afraid but feel free to try out one of the other recipes!

Join me next week when we travel to Morocco!
