Travel the World Through Your Taste Buds: Starting Our Journey

Travel the World Through Your Taste Buds

Welcome to a unique global travel experience, where instead of a boarding pass you simply need your taste buds. Before we can set off on our journey around the world we will need to establish how we will be traveling. Each week we will visit a new country from both my own travel experience and new countries for all of us, there will be an entree and dessert from each country excluding my home country and each will be rated out of 5 stars not only on taste, but also difficulty to make, appearance, and if I would make it again.

Where are we going?

Why not start at out at home for our cultural cuisine journey. I am from central Ohio so I chose a dish that really represents the Ohio life, Buckeyes! These are iconic little treats that everyone in Ohio grows up with, we even have a little wives tale about the name. This story can be told 2 different ways one is that a hunter once looked into the eyes of a buck (male deer) and saw that it looked like the nut from a tree common to his area and decided to call the nut a buckeye, the other version is that when gathering these nuts one day a man discovered they looked like the eye of the buck. The actual nut is poisonous so we make our out of chocolate and peanut butter.

Time to Dig in

The prep time for these little treats is around 10 to 15 minutes. They are super simple to make and no they do not taste like Reese’s at all. My mom made some of these right before I got home from Maine and they are just like biting into a piece of nostalgia. These chocolate covered peanut butter balls are so popular in my town that our schools started serving a special dessert that was a large version of the sweet.

This dish was the perfect start to our international food journey, my home will always hold a special place in my heart but my heart can’t handle staying in one place, it needs to be free to roam. Check back next week when we zip off to 日本 (Japan) with some of my favorite homemade Japanese cuisine.

And remember to take a bite out of life!

Ratings:

Would I Make it Again – 5 stars

  1. This is a great first post! I feel like I am going on a little journey. As I was reading though there where a couple spots that I had trouble reading due to some errors in you sentence structure and I was hard to understand. But overall it was a good piece and I like your topic and look forward to more.
